Star Wars Unlimited – Spark of the Rebellion Set Review

Star Wars Unlimited: Spark of the Rebellion is the debut set of Fantasy Flight Games’ new Star Wars card game, and it arrives with serious ambitions. Featuring characters and moments from the original trilogy, the set captures the feel of the films while delivering a genuinely fresh card game experience.

How the Game Works

Star Wars Unlimited uses a streamlined two-action system — on your turn you take two actions from a short list: play a card, attack with a unit, use an ability, or pass. This keeps turns snappy and decisions meaningful. The base mechanic gives every deck a life total with flavour, and players race to destroy the opponent’s base before their own falls.

Standout Cards

  • Luke Skywalker, Faithful Friend — the centrepiece Rebel leader with strong late-game resilience
  • Darth Vader, Dark Lord of the Sith — the flagship Villain leader, built around exhausting enemy units and pushing relentless pressure
  • Millennium Falcon — a high-value unit that generates card advantage every time it attacks
  • Force Lightning — efficient removal that punishes overextended boards

Aspects System

The game’s Aspects replace traditional colour systems. Each card belongs to one or more Aspects (Aggression, Command, Cunning, Vigilance, Heroism, Villainy), and playing outside your leader’s Aspects costs extra. This creates meaningful deck-building decisions without locking players into rigid mono-colour builds.

Collector Appeal

Spark of the Rebellion goes all-in on collector appeal. Hyperspace variants (full-bleed alternate art) exist for nearly every card, with foil treatments ranging from standard to the stunning Showcase cards featuring panoramic artwork spanning the entire card face.

Verdict

A confident, well-designed debut. Star Wars Unlimited is accessible enough for newcomers yet deep enough to reward experienced players. Spark of the Rebellion is an essential pick-up for Star Wars fans and card game enthusiasts alike.
